Our Technology

At The Andersons, we pride ourselves on being able to present to the market the highest quality and most technologically-advanced products available. Our patented dispersing granule (DG) technology has revolutionized nutrient delivery across multiple markets. Humic DG and Black Gypsum DG utilize this technology and represent the most efficient and biologically-advanced humic acid delivery system on the market today.

Dispersing Granule (DG) Technology

The power behind our line of Humic DG and Black Gypsum DG products is the patented dispersing granule (DG) technology, which enhances humate distribution.

Upon contact with water, each DG granule disperses into thousands of micro particles that move directly into the plant zone and provide immediate benefits to the soil and plant.

Products that feature Dispersible Granule (DG) Technology: Humic DG and Black Gypsum DG.

Soluble Granule (SG) Technology

Our Soluble Granule Technology is a unique, highly concentrated, water soluble granule formulation. Soluble granules are easy to use, and when combined with water or liquid fertilizer, they rapidly dissolve into a complete solution.

Soluble Granules have many advantages when compared to powders and liquids, including:

  • Clean and easy to handle, as compared to powders
  • Easy to mix and rapidly solubilize
  • Highly concentrated, which reduces both shipping and storage costs, when compared to liquid formulations
  • Eliminate the need to ship and store water
  • Can be applied through a variety of application equipment including sprayers, tank mixes, fertigation, injectors, drip irrigation and other liquid applicators

Products that feature Soluble Granule (SG) Technology: K-Mate SG.

The Unique Dual Carbon Sources of Humic DG
& Black Gypsum DG

Humic Acid Precursor (Plant Based Carbon)
+ Humate (Bio-Organic Based Carbon)

Humic DG & Black Gypsum DG contain two forms of organic carbon available to the plant; a plant derived carbon source and a bio-organic derived source. Together, these two sources of organic carbon have been shown to increase soil carbon, chelate macro and micro nutrients, increase CEC and stimulate beneficial soil biology. All other competitive dry humates and powders contain a single bio-organic based carbon source.

Humic DG & Black Gypsum DG positively affect the availability of fulvic acid in the short term, and allow longer term activity on chelation and soil chemistry versus liquid humate products. All humic substances found in Humic DG & Black Gypsum DG are crop available within the growing season.

Humic Acid Precursor (Plant Based Carbon)

Humic acid precursor contains a soluble form of organic carbon which releases into the soil as Humic DG & Black Gypsum DG granules disperse. Research has shown that organic carbon holds nitrogen in the soil and binds readily with carbon based acids. This increases the amount of dissolved organic carbon in the soil water.

Through biochemical reactions, humic acid precursor is transformed into humic and fulvic acids which help chelate nutrients in the soil. This enhances plant nutrient uptake of applied fertilizers and soil nutrients.

Humic acid precursor contributes an additional 10% biological benefit to Humic DG:

Humic acid content 70%
+ Humic acid precursor content 10%
Total humic acid + humic acid precursor 80%

Humic acid precursor contributes an additional 10% biological benefit to Black Gypsum DG:

Humic acid content 21%
+ Humic acid precursor content 10%
Total humic acid + humic acid precursor 31%

The Biologically Active Components of Humic DG & Black Gypsum DG

Included in Humic DG & Black Gypsum DG are four biological components – humic acid precursor, fulvic acids, humic acids and humin.

These four components work together to provide the soil with a broad range of biological benefits, from highly soluble plant available fulvic acids to the insoluble, high nutrient holding capacity of humin.

Humic acid precursor
Humic acid precursor is the highly soluble portion that quickly releases into the soil upon contact with water. Beneficial soil microbes feed on humic acid precursor, transforming it into soluble fulvic and humic acids.

Fulvic acid
Can be absorbed by root tissue and provide hormone-like stimulation to the plant. Also aids in the efficiency of other plant metabolic reactions.

Humic acid
Can be insoluble or soluble. Has a high cation exchange capacity (C.E.C.) and help chelate nutrients and stimulate soil microbes.

Humin
Large, high carbon, insoluble molecules that last the longest in the soil. Have great nutrient holding power.
